The Republic of Congo’s Interior Minister announced Tuesday longtime incumbent President Denis Sassou Nguesso has won another five year term.
Raymond Zephiri Mboulou said in a national address that Sassou Nguesso secured just more than 88 percent of the vote in Sunday’s election, extending his more than 36 years as leader of the Central African nation.
Speaking in Accra,Mr. Yahaya Alhassan thanked President Denis Sassou Nguesso for emerging victorious, and praised the population for voting for stability, democracy and growth, by deservedly choosing the current president of Congo .
Mr. Alhassan used the opportunity to extend his heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family of the main opposition candidate, Mr.Guy-Brice Parfait Kolelas, who died of COVID-19, saying ‘’ May your soul rest in peace. Our prayers are with you and family’’
